Cars and Autos - The Future is Bright...
Cars provide
different functions in people's lives. For many,
cars are their primary means of transportation.
Since consumers invest so heavily in cars, they
have a serious need to research their choices and
determine if they are making a good investment.
After all, a staggering number of options are available
today— which car with a sunroof has the lowest
highway gas mileage?—and consumers are wise
to research online before they start shopping.
For others, cars are more
than just a means of picking up the groceries.
They are a passion. Even if they don't actually
collect autos, armchair drivers from eight to
80 enjoy reading about them. Automobiles can also
provide a glimpse into our history, just as reports
on cars that are in development can give us a
peek into the future. Cars are also fascinating
examples of 20th-century design—just take
a visit to the Museum of Modern Art's online exhibition.
Web research on automobiles
has many advantages. Car sites supplement classified
listings with information about the car market,
including insurance, vehicle histories, crash
test results, reviews, and financing. The web
allows consumers to explore many different car
selections without the pressure of sales staff.
Additionally, the web has information on car safety
and facts about the trade-in and sale value that
can help consumers when they are ready to move
on.
Plus, Americans spend so
much time in their cars it seems like a second
home. A few years down the road that home will
get cozier, as mobile shopping becomes available.
Automotive telematics leader
ATX Technologies Inc. of Dallas has teamed up
with Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. to combine their
technology and marketing for what the satellite
radio company calls in-vehicle e-commerce. The
alliance is a new twist on the use of wireless
technology to buy and sell over the Internet.
Amazon.com already is doing
wireless e-commerce in the United States with
Sprint PCS and Palm Inc. and their Wireless Web
and Web clipping services. Sirius/ATX wants to
put that application in cars, and tap into the
market for mobile impulse buying by allowing people,
say, to buy music they have just heard on the
radio.
So what ever you want from
your car the future is looking very bright indeed!
